How to choose the right FIBC (ton bag)
FIBCs (flexible intermediate bulk containers, or “ton bags”) look simple but the wrong spec can be dangerous. Here is what to check before you order.
Safe Working Load and safety factor
Match the bag’s Safe Working Load (SWL) to your filled weight, and confirm the safety factor (5:1 for single-trip, 6:1 for multi-trip). Never overload.
Construction type
- U-panel — economical, good for most dry solids.
- 4-panel — holds a square shape, stacks well.
- Circular — seamless body, fewer stress points.
Loops, liners and discharge
Corner or cross-corner loops affect how forklifts and cranes lift the bag. Add a PE liner for fine powders or hygroscopic goods, and choose a spout or flat bottom for discharge.
Certification
For food or hazardous goods, ask for food-grade fabric or UN certification and the matching test reports. A reputable maker will provide them with the sample.
